Junipero Serra County Park has many hiking trails, such as the Quail Loop Trail which leads the visitor through a changing panorama of habitats from the creek, through the woods and to the open grasslands. The self-guided Live Oak Nature Trail offers a short interpretive loop along the park's lower north-facing slope.

San Pedro Valley Park contains 7 trails offering a variety of habitats, lengths and levels of difficulty. One of the most scenic, Montara Mountain Trail offers views of Pacific Ocean, the Farallon Islands and the exterior of Pacifica.

The San Francisco Bay Discovery Site, a National Historic Landmark, marks the site on top of Sweeney Ridge, where, in 1769, members of Gaspar de Portolo's overland exploration expedition first saw the San Francisco Bay. Following this momentous discovery by the Spaniards, a presidio and two missions were established in what is now San Francisco.
